Who Are We ?
We are a group of 30 ladies from all walks of life who like to sing and have fun. The club was founded in 1991 by a small group of harmony enthusiasts. Zena Smith, a lady with a vast knowledge of the art, having spent over a decade singing with choruses in other regions, was our founding Musical Director. Appeals in the local press brought more members to the Club and the Humber Belles Harmony chorus was born.
Vere Conolly is our current acting chorus director. Vere started singing with the chorus in 1992 and took over as its director in January 2009. She has a musical background as well as years of experience in unaccompanied harmony singing.
Sheila Germaney is our assistant chorus director. Sheila started singing with the chorus soon after its inception, and frequently leads the chorus at sing-outs and festivals. Sheila also plays a large part in working out our choreography.
The chorus has been holding its rehearsals at the Central Hall, Grimsby on Thursday evenings for the past 3 years. Our repertoire includes songs arranged in the barbershop style; classic and contemporary ballads, and up-beat jazzy numbers all sung a cappella.
Our main objectives are to make beautiful harmonies and enjoy ourselves, and we also try to be active in the community, performing at charity functions, private parties and nursing / residential homes. You might even hear us in a local pub or restaurant when we are all out together.
Every year, members elect a different local charity to support and our charity for 2010 is The Cleethorpes Cancer Support Group, which has a shop in Seaview Street, Cleethorpes.
